I’m not sure it’s possible to miss a place before I’ve even left, but I never claimed to be sane. I know that when we get home all of the leaves will have fallen. Right now, it’s explosions of color everywhere. I’ll be sad to come home to a shadow of the show.

  1. I like winter here. Fall is nice and I’ve been noticing the colors driving to work (it’s dark on the way home — I don’t like that part) but I really like December here. I like the townhouses on Capitol Hill with the Christmas trees and an occasional electric menorah in the windows, the chill in the air like it’s going to snow even though you know it probably won’t for a month or so, and Congress and all of the tourists gone for a while.

snow? seems like the last few years have had only balmy sleet. I’ll share your optimism though – it’s better than my usual whining over the January heat 🙂

  3. rye says:

When I was a kid, we used to go to my grandparents house (in Florida – where it’s ALWAYS summer) every year for Spring Break. When we left, the trees were covered in little green buds and the flowers were just about to open. A week later when we came home, everything was green and the flowers were scattered dead on the ground.
It’s kind of the opposite … but I know what you mean about missing the changes.
