Day One – EST to CST

Posted: 17 November 2007 in triptastic

While pretty, DC to Chicago is not the easiest drive to make.  We ditched the turnpike and took a few lesser traveled roads until we got to Pittsburgh.  The morning was nice.  Crisp, cool, lots of red and orange trees to gape at.  By the time we got further north, a steady rain had started to fall and we went from colorful fall to deary, bare winter.  D. drove the back half, the worse half, and when we got to Chicago, I think we both thought we might fall over from road exhaustion.  The highlight of the evening was staying with a childhood friend of mine.  She’s worth a post all to herself.  She turned over her home, provided just the right amount of conversation and let our seven month old puppy romp all over her three year old dog.  Nothing like almost family to send the trip in an optimistic direction.
